2026 Resin Driveway Pricing Guide

How much does a resin driveway cost?

Indicative installed prices for resin bound driveways in Cheshire and the North West, plus what makes your quote go up or down.

Structure First. Surface Second.

Resin bound driveways are the most asked-about surface we install. Homeowners want the seamless, permeable finish, but the first question is almost always the same: how much does it cost?

Hinchliffe pricing reflects a premium, done-once installation, and there are two distinct systems. The Hinchliffe Engineered Resin Full System (excavation to formation, an engineered SUDS-aligned Type 3 permeable sub-base, geotextile, permeable macadam structural resin-bound base course and Daltex UV-stable wearing course) is typically £240 to £280 per m². The Engineered Resin Overlay System is only offered where the retained base is assessed as structurally suitable, stable, correctly drained and compatible with the selected resin system, and is typically £140 to £170 per m². We don't compete on cheap quotes. We price the complete construction so the pavement performs long term.

All prices are indicative and subject to site assessment, measured quantities, access, drainage, detailing, ground conditions and the final written specification. VAT treatment will be confirmed within the formal quotation.

The construction methodology

Every resin price on this page is built on the Hinchliffe Engineered Surface System™, our engineered driveway build-up, engineered using recognised pavement-construction principles and relevant BS 7533 guidance where appropriate.

The Hinchliffe Engineered Resin Full System, indicative cost breakdown

Rough allocation of an installed square metre on a full engineered build. Actual splits vary with site conditions, but this is what drives the premium over a cheap install.

Engineered layer or checkTypical £ / m²What you're paying for
Site survey, CAT4 scan & site assessment and construction specification£10 to £15Measured survey, utility detection and a written sub-base/drainage strategy specified to the site.
Excavation, muck-away & formation prep£35 to £45Dig to engineered depth, tipped waste, proof-rolled formation ready to build off.
Geotextile separation membrane£4 to £6Non-woven geotextile stopping fines migrating up and locking the structure together.
Engineered SUDS-aligned Type 3 permeable sub-base£45 to £60Open-graded stone placed in correct lifts and compacted to spec, the load-bearing structure.
Haunched edge restraints & containment£15 to £25Concrete-haunched edges stopping the number-one failure mode: lateral movement.

permeable macadam structural resin-bound base course & Daltex UV-stable wearing course£70 to £85Manufacturer-approved resin system and colour-fast aggregate, installed to the Daltex manufacturer specification.
Trowel-trained resin crew (labour)£40 to £55Our own trained crew, not subcontracted day-rate labour. This is where cheap quotes cut.
Approvals, insurance & guarantee documentation£11 to £19Daltex/Tobermore approvals, full public liability, and written guarantee documentation on qualifying full-system installs.
Installed total£240 to £280 / m²Engineered, permeable, guaranteed, built once, properly.

Cheap quotes almost always strip out the survey, geotextile, engineered sub-base depth, edge restraints or drainage design, and use non-UV resin over sharp sand. That's why they fail within a few winters. Our price reflects what's actually engineered in.

Prices are indicative for 2026 and assume normal access, sound ground conditions and a standard aggregate blend. Complex drainage, steep gradients, remote access or premium colour-fast blends can adjust the final figure. We only issue written proposals after a free site survey.

What moves the price

What affects resin driveway cost?

Size and shape

Larger areas cost less per m², but irregular shapes, curves and multiple level changes add cutting and labour time.

Existing base condition

A sound base can be overlaid. A failing base needs excavation, muck-away and a new structural sub-base, typically the biggest cost driver.

Access and location

Tight urban drives, long rural lanes and sites far from Sandbach can affect haulage, plant access and crew travel time.

Drainage requirements

SUDS-aligned resin is permeable, but some sites still need linear channels, soakaways or attenuation crates to handle run-off.

Resin vs other surfaces

Is resin bound worth the cost?

Resin bound is not the cheapest surface, but it is the lowest-maintenance premium finish. There's no sand joints for weeds to take hold, no loose chippings to sweep, and the permeable surface handles Cheshire's heavy rain without puddling or run-off.

Read the permeable driveway guide
  • No weeds, no loose stone, no pressure-washing required
  • SUDS-aligned and permeable, often avoids planning permission for front-garden driveways
  • UV-stable aggregates keep their colour for years
  • 20+ year lifespan on a properly engineered sub-base

Common questions

Resin driveway cost FAQs

How much does a resin driveway cost per m² in 2026?

The Hinchliffe Engineered Resin Full System, excavation, engineered SUDS-aligned Type 3 permeable sub-base, geotextile, permeable macadam structural resin-bound base course and Daltex UV-stable wearing course, is typically £240 to £280 per m². Our Engineered Resin Overlay System, only offered where the retained base is assessed as structurally suitable, stable, correctly drained and compatible with the selected resin system, is typically £140 to £170 per m². All prices are indicative and subject to site assessment, measured quantities, access, drainage, detailing, ground conditions and the final written specification. VAT treatment will be confirmed within the formal quotation.

Is resin bound cheaper than block paving or tarmac?

Resin bound is usually more expensive than basic tarmac per m², but comparable to quality block paving once the sub-base is included. The difference is maintenance: resin has no weeds, no loose joints and no pressure-washing needed to keep it clean.

Can you lay resin over an existing driveway?

The Engineered Resin Overlay System is only offered where the retained base is assessed as structurally suitable, stable, correctly drained and compatible with the selected resin system. If the base is cracked, sinking or holding water, overlaying traps the problem underneath, and we will recommend the Hinchliffe Engineered Resin Full System instead. We'll inspect on site and quote the right approach.

What is included in the quoted price?

Every Hinchliffe Engineered Resin Full System quote includes site assessment, CAT4 utility scan, excavation, muck-away, geotextile membrane, an engineered SUDS-aligned Type 3 permeable sub-base, drainage and edge restraints, permeable macadam structural resin-bound base course and Daltex UV-stable resin-bound wearing course, installed in accordance with the Daltex manufacturer specification. Qualifying full-system installations include a five-year Hinchliffe workmanship guarantee, subject to written terms, and applicable manufacturer product warranties are confirmed within the project proposal.

How long does a resin driveway take to install?

A typical domestic resin driveway takes 5–10 working days end-to-end. The resin itself is usable on foot within 4–6 hours and can take vehicle traffic after 24–48 hours, depending on temperature.

Does resin bound need planning permission?

Permeable construction can often avoid the need for planning permission for front-garden driveways, provided the complete system manages water within the property and satisfies applicable planning and drainage requirements. Final suitability depends on the complete construction, subgrade permeability, levels, discharge route and local site conditions, not the surface material alone, so we confirm this during the survey.

Why is one quote much cheaper than another?

Cheaper quotes usually mean a thinner sub-base, non-UV resin, no geotextile, or a hand-lay finish over a base that hasn't been properly assessed. Those constructions are more likely to deteriorate early. We price the whole construction, not just the visible surface.

Do you offer finance or staged payments?

For most domestic driveways we take a deposit on booking with the balance on practical completion. Larger commercial schemes can be staged against programme milestones, ask during your quote.

What areas do you cover for resin driveways?

We're based in Sandbach and install resin bound driveways across Cheshire and the North West, including Crewe, Nantwich, Knutsford, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Northwich.

How do I get an accurate resin driveway quote?

Call us on 01270 361111 or use the form on this page. We'll arrange a free site assessment, check the ground, measure accurately and send you a documented written proposal, usually within 48 hours of the survey.

BS 7533, permeable construction & compliance

Permeable construction, long-term performance & compliance

What is BS 7533 and does it apply to resin driveways?

BS 7533 provides recognised guidance for the design and construction of modular pavements using clay, concrete and natural stone paving units; it does not certify or govern resin-bound surfacing. Our resin-bound systems are designed around site conditions, anticipated loading, drainage requirements and the complete Daltex manufacturer specification. Relevant pavement-engineering and BS 7533 principles are applied to the supporting construction where appropriate.

What is SUDS compliance and why does it matter?

SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) means rainwater drains naturally through the surface and sub-base rather than running into the road or sewer. A resin bound drive on a Type 3 permeable sub-base is designed to manage water within the site, which helps avoid puddling. Permeable construction can often avoid the need for planning permission for front-garden driveways, but final suitability depends on the complete construction, subgrade permeability, levels and discharge route, not the surface material alone.

Will a permeable sub-base stop my driveway sinking?

A correctly engineered permeable sub-base prevents water collecting underneath the surface, which is the main cause of winter freeze-thaw damage and sinking. We combine the Type 3 sub-base with geotextile separation, haunched edges and proper compaction, engineered using recognised pavement-construction principles and relevant BS 7533 guidance where appropriate.

How long will a properly engineered resin driveway last?

A correctly designed, installed and maintained resin bound pavement can provide decades of service. Qualifying full-system installations include a five-year Hinchliffe workmanship guarantee, subject to the written guarantee terms, specified use, exclusions and maintenance requirements; applicable Daltex manufacturer product warranties are confirmed within the project proposal.
